Starting on Monday, the Berlin police will be holding a city-wide prevention week in supermarkets to warn against the dangers of pickpockets.
According to the police, supermarkets in particular have recently proved to be preferred crime scenes. "Offenders often take advantage of their victims' carelessness: Bags hanging from shopping carts or rollators are emptied in an unobserved moment. In many cases, the perpetrators work in teams - while one distracts the victim, a second grabs it unnoticed."
Pickpocketing continues to be a major problem for the sense of security in Berlin. The police therefore want to make Berliners and visitors aware of the typical tricks used by the perpetrators and give them practical tips on how to behave. The campaign week, which is being held in Berlin for the fourth time, is being taken over by all state police forces this year.
