Berlin's Ticket S (social ticket) for public transportation will become more expensive and will cost 27.50 euros per month from January 1.
This was decided by the Senate. The price increase thus amounts to 45 percent. As recently as April 1, 2025, the so-called Berlin Ticket S, which people with little money can buy, more than doubled from 9 to 19 euros. The new price is now back to the level that applied until the end of 2022, before the reduction to 9 euros came into effect.
Senator for Social Affairs Cansel Kiziltepe (SPD) emphasized that despite tight budgets, it had been possible to maintain the social ticket as a voluntary service of the state in 2026. "My aim is to enable people on low incomes to continue to travel around our city at a reduced price - despite a tight budget and the austerity measures in the state of Berlin."
