Carelessly discarded cigarette packets or illegally dumped bulky waste are not a rare sight in Berlin. A new campaign by Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR) with the slogan "Sauber geht nur gemeinsam" (Clean is only possible together) aims to raise awareness of the fact that everyone is needed to keep Berlin clean.

"It is all of us who can contribute to greater cleanliness, because we can only achieve a liveable and clean city together," said Environment Senator Ute Bonde (CDU).

Around 54,000 cubic meters of illegal waste in 2024

The campaign motifs can be seen on posters and garbage cans, among other things. For example, you can see a talking bag of chips that says: "You love fast food. We love Clean City. Thank you for using our waste bins." According to BSR, it removed around 54,000 cubic meters of illegal waste across Berlin in 2024. Illegal dumping is the prohibited disposal of larger items of waste, such as bulky waste, electronic waste or construction waste.
