New Max transport app to be launched in second half of 2026

Public transport app

The new planned public transport app from Berlin and Hamburg is called Max.

The planned joint public transport app for Berlin and Hamburg should be available in the second half of 2026.

The app will be called Max, according to the Berlin public transport company (BVG) and Hamburger Hochbahn. In January, it was reported that an initial version would be released in the first half of the year.

Development since fall 2024

Users can use the app to find out about routes and how busy they are, buy tickets and gain access to other services such as rental cars and e-scooters. "The app will be open to other partners in the future," the press release states. This refers to transport companies and associations. The app has been in development since last fall. The collaboration is intended to save costs. According to Hochbahn, these are borne equally by Berlin and Hamburg.

App will be self-configurable

Users should be able to configure the planned public transport app largely themselves. For users, it will be as if there is an app store in the app, said the head of Hamburger Hochbahn, Robert Henrich, at the UITP mobility congress in Hamburg. Users will be able to move modules in the app that represent the various transport services. "You can move the subway upwards," said Henrich. Cab bookings could also be placed in this position. "It will be very, very open at this point," said Henrich.
