Clothing donations for the homeless urgently needed

Clothes store

Anyone who has pants, T-shirts or sweaters in good condition can donate them to homeless people next Monday and Tuesday.

Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), Johanniter and Stadtmission are organizing a summer collection campaign at Innsbrucker Platz subway station. The clothes bins are almost empty, according to a joint statement.

Clean, well-preserved clothing required

"The gratitude is great when our guests receive clean, well-preserved clothes - because life on the street is hard," explained Knut Güntzel, manager of a Johanniter emergency shelter in Kreuzberg. "Clothes get dirty and worn out quickly and the opportunities for washing or caring for clothes are very limited for homeless people."

Further donation dates planned

Only men's clothes are currently needed. Hygiene articles, thin jackets, new underwear and socks are also welcome. Donations can be made on Monday (June 2, 2025) between 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and on Tuesday (June 3, 2025) between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.. Further donation dates are planned at various subway stations throughout the week.
