Berlin has a new State Minister (Senator) for Culture. Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) first appointed Sarah Wedl-Wilson in the Rotes Rathaus, after which she was sworn in in the House of Representatives.
Born in Great Britain in 1969, the politician was previously State Secretary for Culture. She is the successor to Joe Chialo (CDU), who resigned on May 2.
The long-standing cultural manager without a CDU party ticket not only has experience in the Senate Cultural Administration. She is also considered a long-time expert on the Berlin cultural scene. Before moving to the cultural administration at the start of the black-red Senate at the end of April 2023, she was Rector of the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin for several years.
