Start of the lido season: five pools open on May 1

Season opening at the Prinzenbad in Berlin-Kreuzberg

Hubert (l) and Enrico enjoy the first day of the outdoor pool season at the Prinzenbad as daily swimmers.

The outdoor pool season in Berlin has started just in time for some really warm days.

The summer pool in Kreuzberg, better known as the Prinzenbad, opened this morning for the first time this year. The first visitors jumped into the water while the air temperature was still cool.

Up to 27 degrees expected on Friday

The forecast for tomorrow's May Day and the school-free Friday is for sunshine and 25 to 27 degrees. From Thursday, the summer swimming pools Am Insulaner, Olympiastadion, Wilmersdorf and Strandbad Wannsee will also be open. The Gropiusstadt outdoor pool will follow on Saturday. The other outdoor pools will open in the course of May and at the beginning of June.

Only a few pools are heated

This season, one swimming pool in Kreuzberg and the Wilmersdorf outdoor pool as well as two pools in the Seestraße summer pool in Wedding will be heated to 22 degrees. Other pools and baths rely solely on the sun's heat, in some cases the water is fed through kilometers of black hoses that heat up.

Ticket sales mainly online

As last year, tickets can be purchased online. Early bookers receive discounts. Also families with children. On hot days, you can also see how full the pool is and whether you need to hurry to buy tickets.
