Number of charging points in Berlin is growing

Charging infrastructure

The number of public charging points in Berlin is growing rapidly. As of February 1, 2025, almost 5,700 charging points were available for e-car owners on public roads, according to data from the Federal Network Agency.

That was a good quarter more than at the same time last year.  The majority of these were normal charging points with a maximum charging capacity of 22 kilowatts. There were only just over 800 fast-charging points in the capital with a capacity above this on the reporting date.

Number of battery-powered vehicles is also increasing

However, the growing number of charging facilities in Berlin does not mean that it has become easier for e-car owners to find a free space. After all, the number of battery-powered vehicles has also increased. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, almost 42,000 purely electric cars were registered in the capital at the start of the new year. On average, around 7.5 vehicles have to share a charging point. That is roughly the same number as in the previous year.
