The risk of forest fires is high in large parts of Brandenburg due to the drought. In six districts, especially in the northern regions, the risk level is 4 - this means a high fire risk.
In Prignitz in the north-west of Brandenburg, the highest level was 5, while the other seven districts in the center and south were given a medium risk (level 3). This is based on data from the Ministry of Forestry. There were already some forest fires in Brandenburg in March and April, but they remained limited and were quickly extinguished.
Organizers of Easter bonfires in particular are keeping a close eye on the weather conditions and whether there are strong winds. Easter bonfires can be banned from forest fire warning level 4. Plenty of rain could ease the situation. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), thunderstorms are possible on Wednesday, for example in Prignitz. It will remain warm with temperatures of over 25 degrees in places. For Maundy Thursday, the DWD predicts a slight chance of showers.
