A100 bridge closed: S-Bahn traffic is also interrupted

S-Bahn traffic under the closed A100 bridge at Berlin's Funkturm highway junction is temporarily interrupted.

In order to ensure the safety of the bridge until it is demolished, it will need additional support, according to the federal government's Autobahn GmbH. When asked, a spokesperson was unable to say how long the closure would last.

S-Bahn traffic closed since Thursday evening

On the homepage of the Berlin S-Bahn, the start of the closure was 10 p.m. on Thursday evening (March 27, 2025): "Due to a line closure (damaged A100 freeway bridge in the Westend area), train services on lines S41, S42 and S46 will be interrupted between Halensee and Westend from around 10 p.m."

Reinforcement of the railroad tracks with a support

"This measure is necessary according to the findings of an expert opinion that was presented to Autobahn GmbH today," it said. "Until the support is installed, rail traffic must be interrupted for safety reasons." The support will reinforce the bridge superstructure over the railroad tracks. Autobahn GmbH unexpectedly closed the Ringbahnbrücke bridge a week ago because a crack in the bridge's supporting structure had unexpectedly widened. As a result of the closure, chaos ensued at the nationally important traffic junction. Northbound traffic has been flowing again since the beginning of the week. It is being diverted in one lane via the opposite carriageway. However, trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons are not allowed to use the detour.
