The risk of forest fires in Brandenburg is increasing: Five districts were already at level four and therefore at high risk, according to information on the Forestry Ministry's website. The danger levels are classified from one to five.
A high risk of forest fires was calculated for the districts of Barnim, Havelland, Märkisch-Oderland, Oder-Spree with Frankfurt (Oder) and Potsdam-Mittelmark with the independent cities of Potsdam and Brandenburg an der Havel. The other regions were classified as level three (medium risk).
The ministry calls for caution and points out that human activity causes more than 90 percent of all forest fires. According to the Ministry of the Environment, the risk of forest fires is primarily dependent on the weather and vegetation. Brandenburg has a total of 106 sensors in use across the state to detect forest fires at an early stage.
