Street cleaning and waste disposal in the capital are becoming more expensive.
The state-owned Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR) is raising its charges by an average of 4.9 per cent from next year, the company has announced. The new prices will then apply for two years. On average, each household will have to pay less than an additional two euros per month. The "Tagesspiegel" had previously reported.
For household waste, the fee for the residual waste bin with fortnightly emptying will rise by 3.11 euros per quarter to 50.14 euros. The basic fee per household and quarter will rise by 41 cents to 9.09 euros. However, the prices for the organic waste bin and the leaf and garden bin will remain the same.Street cleaning fees will rise by between 1.05 euros per quarter and 10.50 euros per quarter, depending on the number of residential and commercial units. The prices are based on a 500 square metre property.
The cleaning fees must be paid by the property owners, who pass them on to their tenants via the service charges. The new prices still have to be approved by the Senate.BSR emphasised that the increases are below the level for the 2023 and 2024 period. At that time, the fees had been increased by around seven per cent on average. "The BSR fees for cleaning and waste collection thus remain among the lowest in a comparison of major German cities," it said.
