It is one of the most anticipated online services in Berlin: electronic residence registration was officially launched by the Governing Mayor at the Smart Country Convention.
According to the Senate Chancellery, residence registration accounts for around a quarter of all appointments at the Citizens' Registration Office. With half a million procedures per year, it is one of the most frequently used services. Those responsible hope that the new online service will be actively used and that citizens will find it easier to make appointments at the citizens' offices for other matters.
Martina Klement, CDO of the state of Berlin, emphasized the twofold advantage of the new digital service: "This central service is now much more easily available for our citizens. At the same time, it can also noticeably improve the appointment situation in the citizens' offices." Over 350 administrative services are already available in Berlin today.
To be able to register online, citizens need an ID card with an activated online function and a corresponding user account, for example BundID. The electronic ID card is also required for many other digital services. Anyone who does not know their ID card PIN can change it or have it reset at the Citizens' Registration Office at any time without an appointment.
