With more exam dates and additional guest examiners, the Senate Department for Transport in Berlin wants to reduce the congestion of driving license exams.
Since the coronavirus pandemic, around 20,000 tests have accumulated. The guest examiners are to come from other federal states, the federal police or the armed forces. In addition, practical driving tests will also be possible on Saturdays in the future. According to the plans, this will allow 4700 additional tests to take place this year.
According to Wednesday's announcement, exemptions make it possible for former driving instructors to take driving tests after shortening their training. Legal requirements are also to be simplified. To this end, the Senate Department for Transport is planning to submit an amendment to the entry requirements for examiners to the Conference of Transport Ministers. The Senate Department for Transport hopes that this will reduce the backlog of tests by the end of 2025.
