Summer has returned to Berlin: The German Weather Service (DWD) issued heat warnings for Monday and Tuesday.
On Monday, the DWD expects a high heat load between 11 am and 7 pm. This corresponds to a level 1 heat warning, in which the perceived temperature is above 32 degrees celsius and the nightly cooling remains low. This applies in particular to the densely built-up urban area of Berlin. A level 2 heat warning for extreme heat is in effect for Tuesday between 11 am and 7 pm. This is called when a perceived temperature of over 38 degrees celsius is expected.
For Tuesday, the DWD expects maximum temperatures of up to 33 degrees in the Berlin metropolitan area. In addition, heavy thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail and squalls are expected again, along with very high humidity.
During a heat wave, a few basic rules should be followed. Basically, avoid direct sunlight and do not go outside during the hottest part of the day. Furthermore, homes should be kept as cool as possible. Finally, it is important to make sure that you drink enough fluids and take in enough electrolytes. Anyone suffering from circulatory problems, headaches or vomiting should contact a doctor.
