Great interest in postal voting: 513,000 ballots issued

Briefwahl

The popularity of postal voting in the upcoming repeat election for the Berlin House of Representatives has so far been just as high as in the last election in September 2021.

By the end of last week, about three weeks before election day on 12 February, 512 998 ballot papers had been issued allowing postal voting. The figure corresponds to 18.7 per cent of eligible voters. In 2021, it was 18.5 per cent at the comparable time. The State Election Commissioner publishes these figures on an ongoing basis. In 2021, around 983,000 Berliners had requested postal voting documents. That was around 35 per cent of the almost 2.5 million eligible voters. Around 1.84 million people voted, 46.8 per cent of them by postal vote.
