The Senate wants to develop a state-owned business park for traditional craft businesses and start-ups on one of its plots in Lichtenberg.

The Senate Department for Economics announced on Monday that planning for the 12,000-square-metre site in Bornitzstraße was now beginning. The project is to be carried out by Wista Management Gesellschaft, a location development company.

Low-cost rents for businesses, start-ups and trade enterprises

It is now to develop financing models and architectural principles. "The aim is to be able to ensure low-cost commercial rents in a future-oriented environment," the Senate further announced. The future tenant structure in the five-storey building is to include commercial, start-up and trades businesses. The Senate hopes that such a hybrid structure will offer more potential for innovation and for securing skilled workers. "With this, the state of Berlin is setting standards to provide space for sustainable cooperation between crafts, start-ups and other companies," announced Economics Senator Stefan Schwarz (non-party).
