The new school year in Berlin starts next week with more pupils than ever before.
Compared to the last school year, the number of pupils at general education schools has risen by a good 6,800 to 383,290, as Senator for Education Astrid-Sabine Busse (SPD) announced on Wednesday. Among them are 37,050 first graders, 1370 more than a year ago. This is the highest number since 2005, Busse said. Pupils from grade 2 onwards will start school next Monday after the summer holidays. For the first graders, the school adventure begins on 27 August with the enrolment ceremony, and their lessons start on 29 August.
