Asian tiger mosquito detected: Report potential specimens

Gefährliche Tigermücke

Several specimens of the Asian tiger mosquito were spotted in Berlin. The mosquito species is a potential vector of various pathogens.

As the Senate Department for Health announced on Thursday, the Asian tiger mosquito was found in a garden allotment in Treptow-Köpenick. The mosquito species had already been spotted there in 2021. Isolated sightings of the tiger mosquito have been reported in Berlin since 2017.

Coordinated control strategy: report suspected mosquito specimens

In order to prevent the mosquito from settling in Berlin, the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lageso) asks citizens to send suspicious mosquito specimens to the German Mosquito Atlas. The Asian tiger mosquito is comparatively small (0.5 to 1 centimeter) and strikingly striped in black and white.
