People without housing can get help in case of severe heat at various places in Berlin.
A model project to help homeless people during the heat wave help was launched on Monday by the association IB Berlin-Brandenburg. On Kurmärkische Straße 1-3 in Schöneberg, all affected people can stay, take a shower and rest daily from 10 am to 8 pm. They also receive food and drinks as well as thermos flasks, clothing, sleeping bags and sun protection products if needed, the IB announced
According to the Senate Department for Social Services, 23 helpers are out and about in the city to offer heat assistance provided by the social sponsor Karuna. They approach people without housing and distribute water, sunscreen, glasses or hygiene items as needed. If needed, they also check on people's general condition and call for medical help if necessary. The association Karuna also operates several "cooling buses" where people can stay and recover from the heat.
