Passengers on Berlin's important S-Bahn line between the stations Ostbahnhof and Zoologischer Garten can expect considerable restrictions from next Monday (July 11, 2022).
No S-Bahn trains between Alexanderplatz and Zoologischer Garten
Initially, the section between Alexanderplatz and Zoologischer Garten will be closed. S-Bahn trains will not run at all on this section until July 18, a spokeswoman said. With the end of this construction work, the closure will begin on the second section between Ostbahnhof and Friedrichstraße. Here, S-Bahn train will not run until July 28.
Replacement buses planned every 5 minutes
According to Deutsche Bahn, replacement buses running every five minutes will be provided for commuters. Nevertheless, passengers would need 10 to 15 minutes longer than usual during the construction work between Alexanderplatz and Zoologischer Garten. The reason is a subsequent order from the Mitte district to change the bus route.
No stop at Hackeschen Markt
As a result, the buses will not stop at Hackescher Markt. Deutsche Bahn recommends using the M1 tram line between Friedrichstraße and Hackescher Markt and the M4, M5 or M6 tram lines between Hackescher Markt and Alexanderplatz.
Regional trains and subways remain untouched
Passengers can also transfer to regional rail services between Ostbahnhof, Alexanderplatz and Friedrichstraße. Additional trains are planned. It is also possible to take the U5 subway line between Alexanderplatz and Hauptbahnhof and the U2 line between Alexanderplatz and Zoologischer Garten.
