According to the Senate, optimism prevails in Berlin's businesses.

"Berlin's economy has returned to its growth path after the slump caused by the Corona pandemic," announced Economics Senator Stephan Schwarz (non-party) on Monday (28 February 2022). He sees evidence of this in the settlement and expansion projects that the development company Berlin Partner supported last year. According to the report, around 638 million euros were invested in the 290 projects and 6708 additional jobs were created.

Record investment in Berlin start-ups

The founders in particular have not been deterred by the many setbacks, said Berlin Partner head Stefan Franzke. Reference was also made to record investments totalling 10.5 billion euros in Berlin start-ups. Overall, the number of employees subject to social security contributions in Berlin rose by around 50,000 in 2021, according to the employment agency, despite the Corona crisis.
