The national training centre in Berlin will remain at the disposal of the German Skating Union (DEU) for preparations for the 2030 Winter Olympics in France.

According to the DEU, the Federal Chancellery and the German Olympic Sports Confederation have also extended the accreditation of the training centres in Dortmund and Oberstdorf until the end of 2030. However, the decision is subject to a subsequent reassessment by the planned independent sports agency.

Berlin is a major centre for figure skating

Berlin is one of Germany’s most important centres for figure skating. Amongst others, the capital is home to the two top German pairs, Minerva Hase and Nikita Volodin, and Annika Hocke and Robert Kunkel. In the future, the new Olympic discipline, Synchro9, is also set to be established at the Berlin national training centre. “We welcome the endorsement of our three national training centres, which are of central importance for the development of our sport in the new Olympic cycle,” said DEU Sports Director Jens ter Laak. In the coming years, plans include improving training conditions and expanding the coaching teams.
