In the future, users of the Volunteer Card in Berlin will only need a smartphone.
The bonus system for volunteers is now available as an app, according to the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
According to the information provided, volunteers can now apply for and renew their volunteer card independently via the app, digitally confirm their volunteer work and then save the card directly in the app. In addition, the app provides quick and easy access to the discounts and offers from the bonus system's more than 500 partners, according to the Senate Administration. The card can ultimately be presented digitally there. It was noted that people who do not own a smartphone will still be able to use a physical card in the future.
Alexander Straßmeir (CDU), State Secretary for Social Cohesion, said: "Volunteer work is essential for social cohesion in our city and throughout the region. With the launch of the Volunteer Card app, we are contributing to the implementation of the Online Access Act. The new app is a concrete step toward showing the many people who go above and beyond for the community every day the appreciation and recognition they deserve."
Berlin's Volunteer Card bonus system has been in place since 2011. According to the Senate Administration, it recognizes the commitment of people who consistently and extensively dedicate themselves to the common good. People who volunteer for at least 200 hours a year can use the card to access discounts and special offers in Berlin and Brandenburg.
