The environmental education center in Britzer Garten in Neukölln is to be rebuilt as soon as possible, according to a statement from the Senate Chancellery. The building was destroyed by a fire in October 2024.
The education center was one of seven environmental education institutions funded by the State of Berlin and was regarded as an important extracurricular learning venue for children, teenagers, and adults.
Since it opened in 2017, up to 5,500 children have visited the center in the Britzer Garten each year, and there have been about 130 events for all age groups. The new building is to be completed as soon as possible. The CDU-SPD Senate passed a resolution to that effect at its most recent meeting. “The environmental education center is indispensable,” said Environment Senator Ute Bonde (CDU). “It enables children and young people to experience nature firsthand and build a connection to it—a central goal of our environmental policy.”
