This weekend, there will be major service disruptions on the S-Bahn and long-distance rail lines due to construction work on the Ringbahnbrücke.

The Ringbahn will be closed from 12 noon on Friday until service resumes on Monday. For long-distance service, there will be repeated closures on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 12 noon until late at night, project manager Bernd Rothe told RBB Inforadio. Car traffic will not be affected.

No further major closures of Ringbahnbrücke are planned

If the major project goes according to plan - and he is confident that it will - then the Ringbahnbrücke is also expected to be completed on schedule in the first half of next year, Rothe told the station. There will then be no further major closures for the Ringbahnbrücke. Work on the Westendbrücke is scheduled to take place in December.

Construction of both bridges to be completed by summer 2027

In western Berlin, the Westendbrücke and the Ringbahnbrücke are currently being rebuilt. The old structures were dilapidated and were closed at short notice last year and then demolished. Both new bridges are scheduled to be completed and opened to traffic in the summer of 2027. Until then, further restrictions on car and S-Bahn traffic in the area are to be expected. The construction work can be followed via livestream.
