Berlin's Senator for the Interior and Sports, Iris Spranger (SPD), has welcomed the allocation of millions of euros for the renovation of sports facilities in Germany's municipalities.

Spranger announced that Berlin has been selected for the first round of funding under the federal program, with 19 projects totaling approximately 16.2 million euros. She said this was a clear signal, for which she is grateful to the Bundestag. "Effective sports development starts in the neighborhoods."

Every district is taken into account

The funds are intended to benefit key locations throughout the city. Every district will be included: 2.5 million euros will be spent on the Flatow Sports Hall in Kreuzberg, just under two million euros on the Hatzfeldtallee Sports Hall in Reinickendorf, and more than 1.3 million euros will go to the Jahn Sports Park in Pankow. The Hans-Rosenthal sports complex in Charlottenburg, the artificial turf fields at the Poststadion in Moabit and the sports facilities on Geraer Ring in Marzahn are also set to be renovated.
