The Berlin International Film Festival has opened. Festival director Tricia Tuttle declared the 76th Berlinale open in the evening. The political drama "No Good Men" about women in Afghanistan will be shown at the opening.
Actress Michelle Yeoh ("Wicked," "Everything Everywhere All at Once") also attended the opening ceremony and was honored with the Golden Honorary Bear for her lifetime achievement.
In the run-up to the film festival, Governing Mayor Kai Wegner said: "The Berlinale is always a political festival and, especially in these challenging times, it consistently focuses on human rights. Cinema here is not just entertainment, but a powerful tool for enlightenment."
The Berlinale will take place from February 12 to 22, 2026. Among others, US star Pamela Anderson ("The Last Showgirl"), actor Ethan Hawke ("Blue Moon," "Before Sunrise") and British musician Charli XCX ("brat") are expected to attend the festival. Last year, more than 330,000 cinema tickets were sold.
