From the start of operations next Monday, trains on the Ringbahn will once again stop at Wedding S-Bahn station. By then, repairs to the station will be complete enough for operations to resume, according to Berlin's S-Bahn.
On New Year's Eve, the platform of the S-Bahn station was severely damaged by a fire. The railway company suspects arson. In recent weeks, temporary technical and lighting systems had to be installed, damaged components secured, and contaminated areas cleaned.
The platform roof, the former control building, lighting, sound systems, and other electrical and telecommunications equipment were partially destroyed, according to the railway company. At the time, the company estimated the damage at around €300,000. The Ringbahn line has not been interrupted, but it no longer stops at Wedding station. The railway company had discontinued a temporary replacement bus service, citing sufficient alternative transport options to Wedding station.
