Meteorologists warned of icy roads already on Thursday. There is now another warning for Berlin and Brandenburg.
Due to black ice, the German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a severe weather warning for Berlin and parts of Brandenburg for the morning. There is a danger to life and limb from sudden freezing rain, according to the Katwarn warning app.
In Brandenburg, Berlin's affluent suburbs and large parts of the north were affected. A similar severe weather warning had already been issued on Thursday. The DWD recommends avoiding outdoor activities and travel. In addition, people should adjust their behaviour in traffic and carry blankets and warm drinks with them. The warning is in effect until 9 am.
Due to freezing rain and sleet, no take-offs or landings are currently possible at the capital's BER airport. It is unclear when operations can resume, an airport spokeswoman told the German Press Agency this morning.
