Berlin celebrates New Year's Eve with fireworks at the Brandenburg Gate

Silvester 2026 in Berlin

Kai Wegner (CDU, left to right), Governing Mayor of Berlin, Franziska Giffey (SPD), Berlin Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, and Moritz van Dülmen, Managing Director of Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH, attend a press conference on the plans for New Year's Eve at the Brandenburg Gate.

Following the cancellation of the traditional New Year's Eve celebrations at the Brandenburg Gate, celebrations will still take place at Berlin's landmark this year. This was announced by Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU).

A DJ party is planned from 10 pm onwards, followed by a seven-and-a-half-minute fireworks display, which will be broadcast live on Channel One from midnight.

Free tickets available from December

It is important that, in addition to images of the New Year's Eve celebrations in Sydney and New York, there are also images from Berlin, said Wegner when presenting the plans at the Rotes Rathaus. Free tickets for around 20,000 guests will be available from December. This time, ZDF will not be broadcasting its New Year's Eve show with well-known artists from Berlin as usual, but from Hamburg. Wegner had already announced at the end of July that there would be no more subsidies from the state for the traditional New Year's Eve celebrations at the Brandenburg Gate. The private organiser then cancelled the show, which was considered Germany's biggest New Year's Eve party.
