The Place of Information and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe present an exhibition documenting the persecution and murder of European Jews.

The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, located in the immediate vicinity of the Brandenburg Gate, was officially unveiled on May 10, 2005, after two years of construction. A total of 2,711 stelae of varying heights were installed across an area of just under 19,000 square meters. The Holocaust Memorial, as the monument is also known, was designed by New York architect Peter Eisenman.

Understanding the horrors of history: Ort der Information

The stelae field, which is accessible at all times, is complemented by the Ort der Information (English: Place of Information). Spanning six rooms, the information center and permanent exhibition offers visitors an in-depth historical insight into the persecution and extermination of Jews in Europe. It focuses in particular on the Nazi policy of terror, personal experiences as documented in letters and diary entries, the fates of families, and the sites of persecution and extermination across Europe. Another key objective is to make the staggering number of six million murdered Jews comprehensible and tangible.
