Mies van der Rohe Haus

Mies van der Rohe-Haus

The Mies van der Rohe Haus, also known as the Lemke House, is both an architectural landmark and an exhibition space.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed this house in 1933 for Karl Lemke, the owner of a graphic arts studio. It was to be his last commission before he emigrated to the United States. Over the years, the house was used as a kitchen, garage, laundry room and caretaker’s apartment. In 1990, the Hohenschönhausen district took over the house. Since then, it has been open to the public as an architectural landmark. Temporary exhibitions focus on modern architecture and art.

Garden of the Mies van der Rohe Haus

The garden serves as an extension of the house and as a link between the architecture and the natural setting of Oberseepark. Hedges and trees extend architectural elements and connect the interior of the house with the outside world. The garden's layout is based on a design by Mies van der Rohe.
