The Militärhistorisches Museum Berlin-Gatow traces the history of military aviation and aerial warfare in Germany.

The Military History Museum at Berlin-Gatow Airfield focuses on military aviation and aerial warfare in Germany as the most recent manifestation of the use of military force. The exhibitions illustrate how the use of the air force has transformed our understanding of war and military force. The focus is therefore not on the technical aspects of aircraft and strategies, but rather on the cultural and historical significance of aerial warfare.

Permanent exhibitions at the Military History Museum

In its outdoor exhibition area, the museum displays one of the world's largest collections of large-scale military equipment. Airplanes, transport and combat helicopters, radar systems, fighter-bombers, air defense missile systems and even nuclear-weapon carriers are organized into twelve thematic sections. The permanent exhibition "Zwischengelandet" in Hangar 3 focuses specifically on the development of military aviation in Germany. Eight sections guide visitors from the dawn of military aviation in the 19th century to the present day. Also in Hangar 3, the permanent exhibition "You Can’t Miss Gatow" tells the history of the airfield. Due to its military significance, this history is closely linked to that of Berlin and Germany. Over the years, the airfield fell into the hands of the Nazis, the Red Army, the Royal Air Force and finally the German Bundeswehr.

• Accessibility: Most of the exhibition areas are at ground level. Exhibitions on the upper floors are accessible only by stairs. There are two steps at the entrance container, but staff can open the gate to provide ground-level access. Accessible restrooms are located in Hangar 3 and in front of Hangar 7.
