The Jollof Festival at YAAM celebrates one of the most famous dishes in West African cuisine: Jollof rice.

This culinary event brings together different nations and cultures, each presenting their own unique variations of this famous dish. Visitors have the opportunity to sample and vote on different preparations (such as those from Nigeria, Ghana or Senegal). In addition to the traditional "Jollof Contest," there will be a cultural program featuring music, dance and various street food stands.

Origins of the Jolof Festival

Who makes the best Jolof rice? This question sparked a friendly rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana long ago. Today, the festival is celebrated not only in West Africa but also in numerous cities across the United States and beyond, where it brings together thousands of food lovers every year. In Berlin, the biggest African culinary rivalry will officially take place for the first time in 2026.
