At the international festival of contemporary puppet and object theater, artists from all over Europe present a wide range of theater projects in shows, performances and exhibitions at the Schaubude Berlin.

The theme of the 2025 edition was autonomy. Once considered a human privilege, it was seen as an expression of consciousness and self-determination. With the digital transformation, the boundaries are shifting. Machines and systems are taking on tasks, making decisions, and learning. In their productions, installations, and exhibitions, international artists explore new forms of independence, between human control, technical logic, and the question of what autonomy means today.

Theater der Dinge Presents Current Trends

As in previous years, the festival continues its tradition of portraying current trends and developments in contemporary puppet and object theater - from anarchic puppet performances and poetic math lessons to intimate fairytale installations and live audio dramas. Border areas are explored and interfaces with sister arts such as performance, visual arts, dance, digital art and music are discovered.
