The International Contemporary Theater Festival features renowned theater artists from around the world. The program includes world premieres, guest performances and workshop presentations. In 2026, the Schaubühne will present works by directors and playwrights from Brazil, Canada, Greece, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Norway.
As it does every year, the festival spotlights a prominent artistic figure. In 2026, British director Katie Mitchell will be the “Artist in Focus.” She served as resident director at the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Court Theatre and works regularly at the National Theatre in London, where she was also part of the artistic leadership team. Internationally, she has directed numerous opera and theater productions and has received many awards.
