A historic train stands at Bernau station to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the S-Bahn Berlin.

Everyone knows it, everyone uses it, many love it: Berlin's yellow and red S-Bahn is celebrating its 100th birthday this year with a festival.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Berlin S-Bahn, Berlin is hosting a four-day festival. Each day will feature a different program focusing on the Berlin S-Bahn. From August 8 to 11, 2024, young and old can look forward to a variety of events, many of which are free of charge, at several Berlin stations.

Events Around the S-Bahn Anniversary

The festival will open on 8 August 2024, with a festive ceremony and a ride on the historic train from Nordbahnhof to Bernau.

  • 8 August 2024: History and politics - special trips on the historic train between Nordbahnhof and Bernau, opening of a special exhibition in the Bernauer Kantorhaus, cultural program on the station forecourt Bernau and on the Elisabeth-Schwarzhaupt-Platz at Nordbahnhof
  • 9 August 2024: Culture and society - special trips on the historic train, exhibitions and cultural program along the route sections
  • 10 August 2024: Technology and industrial culture - special guided tours on the topic of “Electrification - the role of the S-Bahn in Electropolis” with historian and publicist Hans-Michael Schulze and the bzi
  • 11 August 2024: FLeisure and family - special rides on the historic train, cultural program, family program
