The Christmas Market at Potsdamer Platz is called "Winter World" as it not only offers lots of Christmas stuff and foods but also a large toboggan and a 500 square metres open-air ice rink.
The Christmas market is conceived as an Austrian-style winter scenery with log cabins and a crafts market. Visitors can watch the craftspeople at work and sample German and Austrian Christmas foods such as candied apples, roasted almonds and mulled wine.
At the weekend, live music and an après-ski party atmosphere dominate the Christmas market at Potsdamer Platz.
Note: This year only the winter world, not the associated Christmas market, will take place. According to the organizer, seven booths will be set up at Winterworld.
Potsdamer Platz has been redeveloped as the new centre of Berlin after the fall of the Wall. A bustling traffic intersection in the 1920s, it became desolate after WW II and part of the border strip.
