The Christmas market around Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church (Gedächtniskirche) at Breitscheidplatz welcomes its visitors with more than 100 beautifully decorated market stands and Christmas booths as well as 70 fairground rides. Between them, a tall Christmas tree and the church, there is much to see and entertain.
On their way to the petting zoo, children can munch away on homemade Christmas biscuits and gingerbread. As a special treat on all weekends in Advent, Santa Claus hands out presents from his little hut right next to the Christmas tree. Grown-ups in need of a Christmas present or two can stroll about and browse the stands for Christmas decorations, tree ornaments, handmade toys and works of art made in Germany.
Among the German and Austrian delicacies on offer are Germknödel, Schmalzkuchen, grilled sausages and steaks. Mulled wine in different flavours, egg punch and hot chocolate satisfy the thirst and make the low temperatures more bearable at the same time. The Christmas lights around the square and along Kurfürstendamm add to the nice and cozy atmosphere.
Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church at Breitscheidplatz is one of Berlin's most famous landmarks. The ruin of the old church has been converted into a war memorial.
