    This photo released by World Press Photo shows Mahmoud Ajjour (9), who was hit by a missile from an Israeli warplane during the Gaza war and lost both arms. Mahmoud is one of the seriously wounded people from the Gaza Strip who made it to Qatar for medical treatment. The picture was taken by Palestinian photographer Samar Abu Elouf for The New York Times and was named World Press Photo 2025.

    Cordeiro Freitas brings food to his mother, who lives in the village of Manacapuru (Brazil). The village used to be accessible by boat, but due to the drought, Freitas has to walk two kilometers along a dry riverbed in the Amazon.

The annual World Press Photo Award is the world's largest and internationally recognized competition for press photography.

The jury selected from almost 60,000 photos by about 3,800 photographers from 141 countries. The winning photos will be shown in an exhibition in over 45 countries. The World Press Photo exhibition was compiled from the winning photos in the various categories and will be on display for the 22st time at the Willy Brandt Haus in Berlin.
