In Yadegar Asisis' new Pergamon panorama, original parts of the Pergamon altar and a video installation can be seen.
The Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz erected a temporary exhibition building. "Pergamon. Masterpieces of the Ancient Metropolis and 360° Panorama of Yadegar Asisi" was created opposite Berlin's Museum Island between Kupfergraben and the S-Bahn line.
Hermann Parzinger, President of the Foundation, commented: "We know that we have a lot to ask of visitors to Museum Island during the renovation of the Pergamonmuseum. It is a matter of great concern to me that we nevertheless continue to keep the central themes of the world cultural heritage present. "Pergamon-Panorama" was ceremoniously opened on 19 November 2018.
The attraction takes visitors into the year 129 A.D. to the Greek ancient city of Pergamon in Asia Minor. The panorama shows the Roman period under Emperor Hadrian. Embedded in the terraces of the Acropolis on a 300 metre high castle, the imposing buildings with their temples and a theatre blend into the hilly landscape near the west coast of today's Turkey. The work of art is accompanied by a carpet of sound and a light installation simulating the alternation of day and night.
The circular painting of Yadegar Asisi has a circumference of 104 meters and a height of 30 meters. The 35 textile strips sewn together are made of polyester, which was printed using the transfer sublimation process. This results in a total image area of 3100 square metres.
