The Kurdish Film Festival is a permanent fixture on the Berlin events calendar and is taking place for the 16th time this year.
The Berlin festival took place for the first time in 2002. For around a week, films from Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Greece, Israel, the USA, Armenia, France, Germany and Switzerland will be shown that depict Kurdish reality and were made by Kurdish filmmakers.
The festival features numerous short and feature-length films, as well as documentaries and a children’s program. Under the theme “Kurds in the Soviet Union—Between Memory, Identity, Deportation, and Renewal,” the 2026 festival focuses on history, migration, cultural memory, and social change. An extensive supporting program featuring readings, exhibitions, audiovisual installations, and documentary presentations accompanies the film program.
