The Holzmarkt celebrates Día de los Muertos with an altar, cultural program, Mexican delicacies and a fiesta.
The Holzmarkt on the Spree is both colorful and reflective. The Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) is traditionally an opportunity to celebrate life together - with bright colors, cheerful music and joyful memories. According to belief, the souls of deceased loved ones return to their families on Día de los Muertos.
An altar will be set up in the Holzmarkt square. Visitors can look forward to storytelling and live music, face painting for children, a screen-printing workshop and performances, as well as a wide range of Mexican delicacies. They will also learn how to make calveritas. These small sugar skulls are traditionally used as decorations for the Day of the Dead.
