  • Tourists photograph Berlin Cathedral
  • Nativity scene setup in Berlin Cathedral

The Berlin Cathedral's Open Day in 2026 is all about the grand reopening of the Hohenzollern crypt.

On February 28, interested visitors can take a closer look behind the thick walls of the Berlin Cathedral and gain insight into many a secret that the old building hides. They can find out what is behind the altar screen and the emperor's gallery and what special features the Hohenzollern crypt and the dome have to offer. The cathedral choir and the cathedral preacher also offer a look behind the scenes.

Reopening of the Hohenzollern crypt

After six years of renovation, the Hohenzollern crypt in Berlin Cathedral is reopening to the public. The burial place of the Brandenburg-Prussian ruling family is one of the most important burial sites in Europe and contains 91 preserved sarcophagi. Among those laid to rest there are King Frederick I and Queen Sophie Charlotte.
