Folk Festivals and Fairs
Carnivals, funfairs, street festivals and neighborhood fairs: The most important Berlin folk festivals of the year. more
The largest folk festival in Berlin, formerly the German-French Fair, attracts visitors with amusement rides and culinary delicacies.
The popular folk festival German-French Fair is now in its 63rd year and has been relaunched under the new name "Berliner Volksfestsommer". The festival aims to bring childhood memories back to life with classic fairground attractions, candy floss and fireworks.
At the fair, many carnival operators offer thrilling roller coasters and a wide variety of rides. Highlights of the fair include the classic “Break Dance,” the “Monza-Piste” go-kart track, the XXL chain swing “Fly Over,” the “High Sky” Ferris wheel, and the mirror maze “Pharaoh’s Revenge.” Classic fair rides like bumper cars are, of course, also on hand as always. In addition, visitors can meet superheroes, princesses, and well-known characters from gaming and pop culture and take souvenir photos. Among those appearing are Spider-Man, Rapunzel, and Ariel.
Don't worry if you're hungry: There are several beer gardens and numerous food trucks with familiar and new delicacies on the festival grounds. Other highlights every year are the giant fireworks displays, which start at 10 p.m. on Fridays and colorfully illuminate the sky above the central fairground.
