The Strasbourg festival Jazzdor has been opening its doors in Berlin since 2006, and the festival has been extended to Dresden since 2022. Against this backdrop, does it still make sense to talk about a Strasbourg interlude on the Spree?
The Jazzdor Strasbourg-Berlin has long since developed its own dynamic, its own charm and its own urgency. Initially, the Berlin edition of the festival may have been a French showcase in the German capital. But those days are long gone.
Festival director Philippe Ochem has developed a philosophy in the Kulturbrauerei that highlights the similarities and special features of the two cities of Berlin and Strasbourg in a unique way. Berlin was divided between East and West, Strasbourg went back and forth between Germany and France several times. Today, Strasbourg is the political center of Europe, while Berlin is increasingly being proclaimed a cultural center of contemporary Europe.
