The Short Film Festival Berlin (Kurzfilmfestival) is the second most significant international film festival in Berlin after the Berlinale and also the second oldest short film festival in Germany. For six days in November each year, it presents short and medium length films from all over the world in selected cinemas in Berlin.

Submission Process for the Short Film Festival

More than 7,000 films with a maximum running time of 20 minutes are submitted each year from filmmakers in more than a hundred countries. Of these, approximately 500 films are selected by the festival team and arranged into different thematic programmes in which they then compete.

Short Film Festival Competitions

The Short Film Festival competition includes several categories, among them International Competition, German, Documentary, and Green Film. Beyond that there are also sections devoted to other formats such as music videos, experimental films, and retrospectives.
