70 Years of the Wuhlheide Park Railway

70 Years of the Park Railway

In May 2026, the Wuhlheide Park Railway will celebrate its 70th anniversary.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Wuhlheide Park Railway, historic steam locomotives will be running through the park.

The Wuhlheide Park Railway (German: Parkeisenbahn Wuhlheide) will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2026 and will kick off the anniversary weekend with a special event. On both days, two historic steam locomotives - “Merapi” and “Klaus” - will be in service. In addition to the train rides, visitors can look forward to other exciting highlights.

Merapi and Klaus

Merapi was built in Hanover in 1928 and was later used on a sugarcane plantation on the Indonesian island of Java. It has been operating in Wuhlheide since 1992. Klaus was built for the rubble railway after World War II and has been running through Wuhlheide since 1987.
