The fractal patterns depicted on the rugs represent Ruff's long-standing interest in the beauty and in the visualization of complex mathematical phenomena. The title of the series refers to Aldous Huxley's 1954 essay "The Doors of Perception", in which he describes self-experimentation with mind-altering drugs and how artificially altered sensory impressions expand familiar horizons. With the psychedelic-like motifs in d.o.pe., Ruff continues his ongoing exploration of human perception of real and constructed reality.
